The recent prosecution of a builder who made untrue claims about his credentials has proved a timely reminder for property owners of the importance of using recommended tradesmen and property professionals. Andy Stern of the Property Owners Directory says: “The main lesson to be learned from the unfortunate case of Richard Parker of R.P. Preservation is that property owners should be vigilant about whom they are using in their properties.
"If your tradesmen come recommended, there will be much less chance that they will feel the need to be dishonest about their qualifications, experience and other credentials.” This warning comes in the wake of the successful prosecution by North Tyneside Council against Richard Parker, trading as RP Preservation, who falsely claimed that he was accredited to 3 trade associations. Andy continues: “Services such as ours are becoming increasingly popular among property owners precisely to avoid such incidents. We actively encourage property owners to recommend good tradesmen so that we support reputable tradesmen to cut out the cowboys.”
